Editing Is how it Flows and Goes

One of my favorite grammar tools to refresh and get my mindset on editing is the Harbrace College handbook, edition 4.   It has some exercises in it to let your eye catch errors in areas that need extra practice to your craft of writing.  I highly recommend this one.

Harbrace College Handbook

What are you working on today?  Maybe taking a break?  My old schedule before kids was to work on my chapters, add new material and follow the outline during the week.  Fridays were review days and then I would take the weekends off.  With kids and busy routine, I have to switch hats often what the priority is.  My son now has a cold to be monitored so it's going through the family. It's hard to tell what it is with the ragweed season flaring us up here in the South.

What techniques do you use to edit your work?   Some writers read aloud to hear how a passage flows.  Looking for that stick in the mud that stops it.  Do you have a strategy for scenes that seem crammed in the end?  Would transitions work better to smooth out the passage?
